Integration
WinMan Go supports the scanning of barcodes.
The cheapest option is a simple USB scanner located next to a static desktop PC.
The scanner can then be used in ‘keyboard replacement’ mode to read the barcode and type the information into the fields on the screen.
The drawback to this method is that focus must be in the text box you want to scan in to prior to scanning the barcode. In addition, the object to be scanned need to be brought to the PC for it to be scanned.
A better approach is to use an integrated barcode scanner from the list of WinMan Go compatible hardware. This deep integration means that Bluetooth scanners or mobile devices can be used so that the scanned object no longer needs to be moved but rather the scan device can be taken to the object. It also means that focus within the input box is not required as WinMan Go detects the scan event and the applet decides what to do with it; be it validation or processing.
Types
There are two general classes of barcodes: one-dimensional (1D or linear) and two-dimensional (2D). They are used in different types of applications, and in some cases are scanned using different types of technology. The difference between 1D and 2D barcode scanning relies on the layout and amount of data that can be stored in each, but both can be used effectively in a variety of automatic identification applications. 1D barcodes can be read by laser scanners.
Make sure you select the right hardware for your application.
